(01) Great Balls of Fire

There is basically just one way to entirely cease to exist in a fraction of a second, and that is to be exposed to a massive amount of energy instananeously. For most of Earth's history, the main way this happened was by a meteor strike, an event which has been completely unpredictable. Even modern astronomers still do not see them coming much before they hit. This is unfortunate, because about the only way to survive one is to be out of its way when the impact occurs.
